Amy Yates to Lead Baker & Daniels' Privacy & Data Protection Services Group

CHICAGO — Amy E. Yates has joined the health care and life sciences group at Baker & Daniels LLP, where she will lead a team of professionals focused on U.S. and international privacy and data protection issues. She will serve as counsel from the law firm's Chicago office.

Before joining Baker & Daniels, Yates was a Director for Privacy and Data Protection services at Deloitte & Touche in Chicago. She also is a former Chief Privacy Officer at Hewitt Associates LLC where she established and managed its global privacy program as well as legal counsel and privacy officer at another international accounting firm.

Yates brings extensive experience as an advisor on U.S. and international privacy and data protection issues, including compliance with the Safe Harbor Framework, foreign data protection laws, the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rule, the HITECH Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, and state privacy laws. At Baker & Daniels, she will work with clients from all industries, including health and life sciences, financial services, and global companies, to facilitate compliance with privacy policies, global data transfer obligations, legal and contractual data use and collection restrictions, e-mail marketing regulations and other challenges in a practical and sustainable manner.

Yates graduated from Northwestern University School of Law after earning a bachelor's degree magna cum laude from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. She was a graduate fellow while studying international trade and modern Chinese at Taiwan National Political University from 1982-84.

A Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP), Yates is a former board member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
