Joint Summer Associate Program
Cummins Inc., a Fortune 500, global manufacturing company headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, and the law firm of Baker & Daniels, one of Cummins’ significant providers of outside legal services, are offering a unique summer associate program to enhance Cummins’ and Baker & Daniels’ joint commitment to diversity. The summer associate’s experience will include all aspects of Baker & Daniels’ regular summer associate program with the added dimension of working primarily on Cummins’ matters. This aspect of the program will provide the summer associate the opportunity to work closely with Cummins’ representatives and with the B&D Client Service Team that represents Cummins. Assignments will provide the law student with an opportunity to perform research, draft documents / pleadings, and collaborate on legal strategy, as well as participate in meetings with Cummins’ representatives. The joint program is intended to attract a top diverse candidate to spend the summer getting to know Cummins’ business and the work Baker & Daniels performs for Cummins and for other clients. The opportunity for employment after law school is limited to Baker & Daniels, as Cummins does not employ attorneys directly after graduation from law school.

Eli Lilly and Company, a
Fortune 500, pharmaceutical company headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the law firm of Baker & Daniels, one of Lilly's significant providers of outside legal counsel, are offering a unique summer associate program to enhance Lilly and Baker & Daniels joint commitment to broadening the participation of minority attorneys in the legal representation of Lilly. The program will provide the opportunity for the summer associate to work at Lilly and at Baker & Daniels on a schedule that is mutually acceptable to both, in an effort to immerse the student in the day-to-day legal work that Lilly's internal and outside counsel perform. The key mission of the program is to attract a top diverse candidate to spend their summer getting to know Lilly's business and the work Baker & Daniels performs for Lilly and other clients. While the program will provide the summer associate with a diverse perspective of legal careers, the opportunity for employment after law school is limited to Baker & Daniels, as Lilly does not employ attorneys who have not practiced in a law firm after graduation.
