Law Students

At Baker & Daniels each associate has the potential to become a partner of the firm. As a result, we are committed to the professional development of each associate. Associates may indicate the areas of law in which they prefer to work. Each associate has a partner supervisor who works closely with them to plan and coordinate the associate's professional development. In addition to project-to-project feedback, each entry-level associate is formally evaluated semi-annually for the first two years with the firm, and annually thereafter. Salary adjustments and bonus determinations are also made on an annual basis.

Practicing law at Baker & Daniels provides an opportunity to work with talented and dedicated attorneys who have graduated from the nation's finest law schools. One of our founders served as Vice President of the U.S., and other firm lawyers have represented Indiana in the U.S. Congress and the Indiana Legislature. Three Baker & Daniels lawyers have been elected governor of Indiana. The firm's lawyers have a long tradition of involvement in public service on a local and national level, serving on the boards of a broad range of civic, charitable, social service, and arts organizations. Baker & Daniels offers an opportunity to practice law while enjoying a quality lifestyle.

The firm attracts the majority of its talented attorneys through its Summer Associate Program. This 12-week experience allows first- and second-year law students to see firsthand what it's like to be a new associate at Baker & Daniels. Exceptional third-year students are also encouraged to participate in on campus interviews.

The 2007 summer associate class consisted of 45 law students from 22 different law schools — 22 percent of whom were African American, Hispanic or Asian Pacific and 47 percent of whom were women. Baker & Daniels hired 20 first-year law students and 25 second-year law students last summer. There were 34 summer associates in the Indianapolis offices, six in Fort Wayne, four in South Bend and one in Washington D.C.
