Our recruitment practices and results reflect our efforts to make Baker & Daniels a destination for diverse candidates. We recruit from law schools across the country, including Howard University, and regularly participate in minority job fairs, regionally and nationally.
Job Fair Participation
Baker & Daniels actively supports and participates in the Indianapolis Bar Association's Diversity Job Fair, Midwest Black Law Students Association, Cook County Job Fair, Legal Career Fair sponsored by the Harvard Black Law Students Association and the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Opportunity's (ICLEO) Gateway to Diversity program. ICLEO's Gateway to Diversity Program links Indiana's legal employers with minority law students and Indiana CLEO fellows to enhance the diversity of law students in Indiana's legal community. The continued diversification of the firm's summer associate class over the last several years reflects our ongoing dedication to the recruitment of diverse talent.
Pipeline Initiatives
We are also focused on developing the diversity pipeline. Baker & Daniels was the first Indiana law firm to offer diversity scholarships to law students – including two annual $10,000 scholarships and placement in the firm's summer associate program. The firm is also one of only four law firms in Indiana to participate in the Hudson & Holland Scholarship Program at Indiana University for minority undergraduate students graduating from college who have performed well academically and want to attend law school. Through this program, we provide the student a summer internship and include the intern in our summer associate experience. The firm has also partnered with clients on first-year law student summer associate positions.
Additionally, we are spearheading the Street Law Corporate Diversity Pipeline Program at Shortridge Law & Public Policy Magnet School, where our professionals are team-teaching, along with professionals from Eli Lilly and Company, a course on civil law.
